Dear colleagues,

on March 27 this year a major event will take place in Wuppertal, North Rhine Westfalia. The Wuppertal Schauspielhaus, the former Theatre of Pina Bausch, is in acute danger to be closed down.

The situation of the theatre stands for many other public culture institutions which are massively effected by the communities' exploding public debits, the result of the global economic crisis. Theatre people from all Germany will gather in Wuppertal on 27 March to protest against massive cuts in public expenses and cultural budgets on the one hand and financial parachutes for the banks on the other hand.

ITI Germany will do the award ceremony of the world theatre day prize for this year’s prize holders Christoph Marthaler and Anna Viebrock in the framework of the protests in Wuppertal.

As sign of solidarity we kindly ask you for short messages to support the resistance against the closing plans for a theatre which was the home for world famous artists like Pina Bausch, Peter Zadek, Claus Peymann and Luc Bondy.

Please send your message directly to: kpierwoss@hotmail.de and to ITI-Germany (th.engel@iti-germany.de)

Much regards,
